Frequently Asked Questions

What is raw cacao powder and how is it different from regular cocoa?

The article specifically calls for raw cacao powder — the author uses Navitas Naturals brand — and frames it as a source of antioxidants and omega 3s alongside the flax seeds. Raw cacao is processed at lower temperatures than Dutch-process or natural cocoa, which preserves more of its nutrients and gives it a more intense, slightly bitter chocolate flavor.

Should I use whole or ground flax seeds?

The recipe calls for 1 tbsp of coarsely ground flax seeds. Whole flax seeds pass through the body mostly undigested, so grinding them — even coarsely — makes the omega 3s and fiber the article highlights actually available.
