Song man Frank Sinatra’s birthday is December 12 and it was a big one this year. Although no longer with us, his music is more popular than ever and being discovered by new generations as they learn to appreciate his phrasing and sense of style. It’s no secret that Frank liked a stiff drink and a curvy broad, and favored a few hotels. Staying and playing in Vegas, Palm Springs, NYC, Chicago and Los Angeles was a fave of “old blue eyes.”
The Beverly Hilton, the capitol of swank at the crossroads of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards, shares their recipe for the “Chairman of The Board” cocktail. We think it would be perfect for celebrating Frank’s 100th Birthday. And do it “My Way ” baby!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Luxardo cherry and can I substitute a regular maraschino cherry?
Luxardo cherries are Italian marasca cherries preserved in their own syrup — they are darker, less sweet, and have a more complex bitter-almond flavour than the bright-red maraschino cherries typically found in grocery stores. The recipe specifically calls for a Luxardo cherry as garnish alongside the orange slice, and using one elevates the drink noticeably.
Where does this cocktail recipe come from?
It comes from The Beverly Hilton, described in the article as “the capitol of swank at the crossroads of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards” — a hotel connected to Frank Sinatra’s world of Vegas, Palm Springs, and Los Angeles. They named it the “Chairman of the Board” in his honour.

Those are definitely interesting ingredients in the Frank Sinatra 100th birthday Bourbon cocktail, especially the Maple Syrup! According to a man who traveled with Frank Sinatra for many years, Frank had an interesting way of stirring his drink: with his index finger. That’s according to a book called Sinatra and Me, by Tony Consiglio and Franz Douskey, which is a great personal account of being on the road, and in the middle of the action with Frank Sinatra.
