One of the best things about cupcakes in my opinion is that they come in so many different flavours and varieties. I get great enjoyment out of trying unique flavour combinations and experimenting with different ingredients. If you make any of these, please comment and let me know how they were.
Liquorice and Peppermint
This recipe was recommended to me by Kate Evans and is from a brilliant blog called Kayotic Kitchen.

Marmite Caramel Cupcakes
Nicki, author of Cardiff Bites sent me this recipe along with the one below. Tried, tested, and approved. Marmite has an umani flavor, a little sweet and a little salty.

Meatloaf Cupcakes with Mash Potato Frosting
Another one from Amy of Bonjour cupcakes. This one is seriously weird. What could be better than mini turkey meatloaves topped with mashed potato “frosting” and also easily portable, party food?

Parsnip and Maple Syrup
This recipe is from Teleri Jones. She made these cakes and put them on Twitter. The recipe is for a big cake but Tereri made it into cupcakes. I’ve had a go at these myself and they are delicious!

Mango Chilli Cupcakes
I think these actually sound quite delicious! A little citrus, a little spice, just the tropical touch you need.

Salmon Cupcakes
As an appetizer, rather than dessert these savory cupcakes are topped with cream cheese and dill spread. Think bagel and lox in a cupcake costume.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which of these unusual cupcake flavors is actually the most approachable to make at home?
Parsnip and maple syrup cupcakes are the most straightforward starting point — the flavor combination is genuinely delicious, the parsnip bakes into the crumb like carrot cake, and it's easy to adapt from a standard cupcake recipe by replacing part of the flour with grated parsnip and swapping sugar for maple syrup.
Can savory cupcakes work as appetizers?
Absolutely — the salmon cupcakes in this list are designed specifically as appetizers. Think of them as individual savory cakes topped with cream cheese and dill, similar to a bagel and lox in cupcake form. The small size makes them ideal party food: portable, pre-portioned, and dramatic looking.

Seriously omg that. Is. So. Weeeeiiiirrrrdddd!
That is… Um MEST UP! XD
but the bacon sounds yummah!
Schell’s Firebrick Maple Bacon Cup. This cupcake was designed on a clients request who orders cupcake from me(Cakes Etc.) for his dessert on his restaurant menu. It is basically a yellow flavored cupcake infused with Schell’s Firebrick beer, candied bacon, and filled with Carmel. I then top it off with a homeade maple flavored buttercream with candied bacon sprinkles.
I would put my extra ones in my display case I had made for his orders and now it’s become one of my customers favorite. Who would have thought this combination would go so well. I love how the flavor of the beer comes through in the flavor of this creation;0)!
