Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the recipe use both peppermint schnapps and crème de menthe?

The shake calls for 1 shot of peppermint schnapps and 1/2 shot of clear crème de menthe. Peppermint schnapps delivers the sharp, cool mint flavor while the clear crème de menthe adds sweetness and a slightly different herbal roundness without turning the shake green — the clear variety is specified, not the colored one.

Why is the candy cane split between the blender and the garnish?

Half the candy cane goes into the blender with the 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, milk, and alcohol to infuse peppermint flavor and sweetness into the shake itself. The remaining half is crushed and used as the garnish on top with the whipped cream, giving both a visible candy-cane finish and a textural crunch.
