Description

These shells resemble empanadas, with their delicious dough filled with spicy sausages, these are perfect for summer picnics and parties.


Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 8.8 oz (250 g) all purpose flour
  • 0.1 oz (3 g) instant dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 0.6 cup (155) ml warm water

Filling

  • 7 oz (200 g) sausage
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 0.8 cup (200 ml) tomato puree
  • pinch of chili powder

You will also need

  • 1 egg
  • sesame (or some other) seeds
  • smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. For the dough, combine all ingredients and knead until dough forms. Cover with kitchen towel and let double in size. Knead it again and roll out onto floured surface. Cut out circles.
  2. For the filling, chop sausage into cubes. Place in heated skillet (you don’t need oil or butter). After a couple of minutes, add tomato puree and spices.
  3. Place filling onto each circle of dough and flip it in half. Sear the edges with egg was and press them with fork. Place empanadas onto baking tins lined with parchment paper. Brush their surface with egg wash and sprinkle with salt or smoked paprika and sesame seeds (you can use other).
  4. Preheat oven to 356 F (180 C). Bake for around 30 minutes, until nicely golden.
