Description

These homemade chocolates combine the subtle flavor of sunflower seeds with creamy Nutella, coated in rich brown candy melts for a delightful crunch and sweetness.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds, raw and hulled
  • 4 tablespoons Nutella
  • 1 cup brown candy melts
  • Assorted nuts and coconut, for topping

Instructions

  1. In a pan, roast the sunflower seeds over medium heat until they are golden brown and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool completely.
  2. Once cooled, grind the sunflower seeds in a coffee grinder to a fine coarse consistency.
  3. Transfer the ground seeds to a bowl and add 3 tablespoons of Nutella. Mix well until combined.
  4. Gradually add the remaining 1 tablespoon of Nutella, 1/2 tablespoon at a time, until the mixture holds together well.
  5. Melt the brown candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 30-second intervals and stirring in between, until smooth and fully melted.
  6. Using a spoon, drop small amounts of the Nutella mixture into the melted candy, ensuring each piece is fully coated.
  7. Place the coated chocolates on a parchment-lined tray and sprinkle with assorted nuts and coconut as desired.
  8. Allow the chocolates to set at room temperature or refrigerate for faster setting.

Notes

These chocolates can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container. They make a wonderful gift. You can substitute other nuts or seeds if desired. Ensure the sunflower seeds are completely cool before grinding to prevent clumping.
