For the scones:
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 Celestial Seasonings Caramel Apple Dream tea bags
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups white whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter (cold and cut into small chunks)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 medium apple (grated or cut into small chunks)
For the glaze:
- 4 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
- 1 tablespoon butter (at room temperature)
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Place milk in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute.
- Steep tea bags in milk for 10 minutes, remove the tea bags, then chill milk.
- Once milk is chilled, preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Combine flours, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a food processor.
- Add butter and pulse until the butter is well distributed and it resembles crumbs.
- In a small bowl, whisk together chilled milk, egg, brown sugar, and vanilla until combined.
- Combine milk mixture with flour/butter mixture in a large bowl and stir together with a wooden spoon or spatula until well combined.
- Fold in apple. The dough will be sticky.
- Place dough on a well floured surface and with floured hands, shape into a 9 disc.
- Cut into 8 triangles and place them on a parchment or Silpat lined baking sheet, about 2 apart.
- Bake for 20-22 minutes, until golden brown.
To make the glaze:
- Beat together all frosting ingredients until well combined.
- Drizzle over warm scones.
