Simple Garlic Bread
- Total Time: 7 minutes
- Yield: 4 servings 1x
Description
This simple garlic bread is a quick and delicious accompaniment to soups, au gratin, or pasta, or can be savored on its own.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of bread (preferably brown for a healthier version)
- 2 tbsp (30 g) butter, softened
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
- A light sprinkling of oregano
- Optional: Grated cheese for topping
Instructions
- Preheat a pan over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, combine the softened butter and finely chopped garlic. Use the back of a spoon to slightly crush the garlic, allowing its flavor to infuse into the butter.
- Add a light sprinkling of oregano to the garlic butter mixture and stir to combine.
- Spread the garlic butter evenly over one side of each bread slice.
- Place the bread slices, buttered side down, onto the preheated pan. Toast for 1-2 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.
- If desired, sprinkle grated cheese over the warm, toasted garlic bread and allow it to melt slightly before serving.
- Serve immediately with soups, au gratin, or pasta, or enjoy on its own.
Notes
- For a cheesy version, sprinkle grated cheese over the warm, toasted garlic bread.
- If you have a grill, spread the garlic butter over the bread slice, sprinkle grated cheese, and grill until the cheese melts.
- Brown bread is a healthier option.
- Serve immediately for best taste.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add cheese, and how do I do it?
Yes — the notes give two options: sprinkle grated cheese over the warm toasted bread straight from the pan and let it melt, or spread the garlic butter, add cheese on top, and grill until the cheese melts if you have a grill.
Does the type of bread matter for this recipe?
The recipe uses 4 slices of bread and notes that brown bread is a healthier option. The pan-toasting method works with most sturdy sliced breads — place the garlic-buttered side face-down on the preheated pan for 1–2 minutes until golden.
