Bring the Tiki Social Home: Mai Tai Have Another

After a visit to the Tiki Social pop-up at the Omni Berkshire Place in New York, I found myself craving the warmth of a tropical escape—and some solid Tiki cocktails at home. This pop-up is part of a summer rollout happening at 11 Omni hotels nationwide, featuring an immersive bar experience with eight original cocktails and two zero-proof drinks, all crafted by Jeff “Beachbum” Berry. Jeff’s a Tiki historian, cocktail author, and the guy behind some of my favorite holiday drinks at the Miracle pop-up bar.

While the pop-up focuses on drinks (no food menu beyond event-only bites like crab wontons and chicken skewers), those cocktails are enough to transport you to a beachy state of mind.

A few days after my visit, I caught myself humming Sean Paul’s “We Be Burnin’,” and daydreaming of palm trees swaying, birds gliding across the sky, and clouds drifting by like scoops of coconut ice cream—while sipping one of Jeff’s drinks, of course.

Which got me thinking about two things: I need another visit to that pop-up. When it’s gone after Labor Day… could I recreate the vibe at home?

Could I throw a little Tiki Social of my own—cocktails, music, and just enough island flair to forget I’m in a city apartment?

I mean, I don’t have a backyard. But maybe you do. And if so, you’re in luck. Omni shared one of their recipes so you can bring that vacation energy to your porch, patio, or whatever space fits a drink and a dream. All you need is a solid playlist, a few tropical garnishes, and one great cocktail.

Start with this one—it’s called “Mai Tai Have Another,” and yes, the name pretty much says it all.

Description

Double the rum, a splash of lime, orange curaçao, and a touch of orgeat—Jeff “Beachbum” Berry’s dangerously smooth take on this tiki classic will have you saying exactly what it’s named for: Mai Tai, have another.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 oz Gold Rum
  • 1 oz Dark Jamaican Rum
  • 0.5 oz Orgeat (almond syrup)
  • 0.5 oz Orange Curacao
  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • Ice
  • Mint sprig, for garnish
  • Lime wheel, for garnish
  • Cocktail umbrella, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Fill a shaker with ice.
  2. Add 1 oz Gold Rum, 1 oz Dark Jamaican Rum, 0.5 oz Orgeat, 0.5 oz Orange Curacao, and 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice to the shaker.
  3. Shake vigorously until the mixture is well chilled.
  4. Strain the cocktail into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice.
  5. Garnish with a mint sprig, lime wheel, and a cocktail umbrella.

Notes

For an authentic tiki experience, use freshly squeezed lime juice. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, a mason jar with a lid can work in a pinch. Serve immediately to enjoy the full flavor and chill of the cocktail. Consider pairing with tropical music and decor for a full tiki vibe.
