45 Park Lane London Review: Boutique Luxury with a Personal Touch

On my last trip across the pond, I found myself at 45 Park Lane London. There’s plenty to love about this property, but what stood out most was how quickly we were made to feel like family, or perhaps longtime regulars. For a hotel of this caliber, the atmosphere is refreshingly free of the stuffiness you might expect. From the doormen to the general manager, everyone seems to remember your face and, remarkably, your name, even after just two nights there. A few days after checking out, I returned for dinner at 45 Park Lane’s signature restaurant, CUT, and sure enough, the staff remembered me immediately.

The Property

With just 45 rooms and suites, all overlooking Hyde Park, 45 Park Lane offers a more intimate, boutique-like experience than you might expect from a Dorchester Collection property, without holding back on any of the luxuries that come with the name. Intentionally or not, there’s also something of a members’ club feel to the place. Art-deco inspired style, cozy corners for a late night drink are tucked behind curtains and staircases, leading the hotel to a if you know, you know feeling. Yet for all its intimacy, 45 Park Lane punches well above its weight when it comes to amenities, with multiple dining spots, including Wolfgang Puck’s celebrated CUT, and an incredible spa and fitness facility that is larger than anything you could likely imagine of a hotel’s facility.

The Location

The location doesn’t hurt either. Sitting directly across from Hyde Park, at the edge of Mayfair, 45 Park Lane puts some of London’s best shopping, restaurants, and green spaces within easy reach. You’re close enough to the action to explore much of central London on foot, yet the hotel itself feels protected from the bustle outside. And with Hyde Park just across the street, there’s really no better excuse for a morning pastry and stroll.

The Rooms and Suites

The rooms and suites at 45 Park Lane have that perfect balance of old-school luxury and modern technology. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of Hyde Park, while the interiors feel well thought out. There’s a spacious desk, a generously stocked liquor bar, a loaded magazine rack, and more closet space than you’ll know what to do with, complete with extra robes and even a yoga mat. Thoughtful touches are everywhere like freshly replenished shortbread cookies to the pillows embroidered with the 45 Park Lane insignia.

Technology, however, is where 45 Park Lane really sets itself apart for me. Televisions swivel outward when you need, keeping the room extra sleek. In-room iPads are how you order room service without any clunky phone calls, and bedside touch-screen controls do everything from curtain control to climate management. Even the bathroom mirrors have their own televisions baked in.

The bathrooms are nothing to scoff at either. A personal favorite was the Japanese TOTO toilet, complete with a heated seat and a lid that opens automatically as you approach. Elsewhere, you’ll find a walk-in shower with three (yes, three) different shower heads, dual sinks, and a spacious soaking tub.

The Food & Beverage

As you might expect from a steakhouse helmed by Wolfgang Puck, the menu at 45 Park Lane’s sigature restaurant, CUT, is a celebration of the most exceptional cuts of beef. We opted for two very different but very striking cuts: a 35-day-aged USDA Prime filet mignon from Creekstone Farms and an Australian Wagyu ribeye from Queensland. Unsurprisingly, both were cooked to perfection, and I did in fact have to pinch myself at just how good they tasted.

Part of the fun at CUT is making the meal your own, with an extensive selection of sauces and sides to mix and match. We went with a classic green peppercorn sauce and a rich red wine Bordelaise, alongside cavatappi mac and cheese, silky potato purée, and a refreshing heirloom tomato and onion salad. All were excellent pairings, though the steaks were the stars of the show. Had our appetites allowed, we would have happily explored the seafood-forward starters.

Somehow, despite the indulgence, we managed to find room for dessert. The Summer Mango Pavlova and Dark Chocolate Soufflé arrived with a little tableside theater, complete with pours of chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and mango sorbet. Paired with a 2024 Vidal Icewine from Ontario’s Peller Estates, it was the ideal finale. By the time we were done, we practically waddled back to our rooms.

There’s plenty more to discover on the dining and drinking front. Whether you’re staying at 45 Park Lane or not, Bar 45 is worth a visit for a nightcap. It has that members’ club mood with its dark wood and plush seating, and that’s what we loved about it. The famous Negroni trolley is reason enough to stop by, though the bartenders are equally happy to whip up just about anything you’re craving, usually with a creative twist of their own.

You might not expect a hotel best known for its American steakhouse to also have a Michelin-starred sushi offering, but 45 Park Lane pulls that off, too. Sushi is served at the hotel’s intimate Sushi Kanesaka, where the focus is on traditional Edomae-style omakase. A completely different, yet very authentic experience from the lively atmosphere at CUT.

The Wellness

While I’m not one to race to the gym at any hotel I stay in, I admittedly always pack my gym clothes, perhaps more out of optimism than anything else. But 45 Park Lane was different. For the first time in ever, I found myself eager to squeeze in a workout. This is by far one of the largest hotel gyms I’ve ever seen, made that much more impressive considering 45 Park Lane is a 45-room boutique hotel. The gym is equipped with Technogym machines, the same calibre you’d expect at upscale Manhattan gyms like Equinox or Life Time. It’s the real deal, with everything you need to keep up your usual routine, whether that’s bench pressing, climbing the StairMaster, or getting in a few sets of lat pulldowns.

After your workout, there’s a stunning 10,000-square-foot spa that had me making an impromptu trip to M&S for a bathing suit and rearranging my London itinerary just to spend some time there. At its center is a beautiful 20-meter indoor swimming pool, surrounded by intricate Venetian mosaics, natural wood, and soft lighting. There’s a spacious sauna, steam room, and hydrotherapy pool, along with plenty of room to unwind with a book after a workout or treatment. Once again, it’s a surprisingly expansive setup for such an intimate hotel, and one that was well worth clearing a few hours out of my schedule to experience.

The Verdict

London has no shortage of fantastic luxury hotels, but 45 Park Lane manages to stand out in a city full of them. The rooms are beautiful, the dining is memorable, and the wellness facilities are among the best I’ve experienced. But what stayed with me most was the people. There’s something special about a hotel that delivers five-star luxury without the formality of it all, making you feel more like a regular to the establishment. Two nights was all it took to win me over.
