I have been wanting to make an apple cider in the slow cooker for awhile now. I was brainstorming a way to make it extra special when it came to me: cranberries! This cider smells incredible and will make you feel warm and festive when you drink it.

It only takes a few minutes to throw all the ingredients in a slow cooker. Then let it simmer while you get everything else ready for your get together. By the time your guests arrive, the cider will be ready and filing your house with a wonderful aroma.

If you make this cider for a party or large gathering, you may want to at least double the recipe. I made it for a bonfire with some friends and it was gone in a matter of minutes. You can also make it ahead and refrigerate until the day of the party. I mixed everything together a couple days in advance and put it in the fridge. On the day I needed it, I put it in the slow cooker for about 4 hours.

Description

Create a fragrant holiday drink for your guests that is sure to satisfy. It takes moments to put together and then let it simmer away and develop flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups apple cider
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 2 cinnamon sticks (or about 1 tbsp of ground cinnamon)
  • 1/2 tsp whole cloves
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 large apple, peeled, cored and sliced

Instructions

  1. Pour the apple cider and apple juice into a slow cooker. Add the cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and allspice and stir (the spices won’t completely disappear).
  2. Add the ginger, cranberries and apples and stir.
  3. Cook on low for 4-7 hours (the longer you cook, the stronger the spices and flavors will get). Serve hot or cold.
