Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, brown sugar, flour, and vanilla extract until well combined. The mixture may be slightly thick, but that’s okay.
  2. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish. Place the bread slices in the dish and soak for at least 1 minute on each side, ensuring they are well-coated.
  3. Heat a generous amount of canola oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the soaked bread slices into the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels if necessary.
  6. Serve hot with your choice of toppings such as honey, agave, or a splash of your favorite liqueur.

Notes
