Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 6 apples (or 3 pounds), peeled, cored, and cut into small pieces
- 2 cups oats
- 1/2 cup flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 cup honey (or 4 tablespoons)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 stick (or 4 ounces or 113.4 grams) of unsalted butter, at room temperature
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 380°F (or 193°C).
- In a large baking dish, combine the apple pieces with 3 tablespoons of sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Mix well until the apples are evenly coated. Let this mixture rest while you prepare the topping.
- In a separate bowl, mix together 2 cups of oats, 1/2 cup of flour, and 1/4 cup of honey. Add the room temperature butter and use your fingers to combine the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Spread the oat mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes to prevent the top from burning while the apples bake.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 to 25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
Cover the apple crisp with aluminum foil for the first 30 to 40 minutes of baking to prevent the topping from burning. This dish can be enjoyed as a dessert or even for breakfast with a cup of coffee. If you have leftovers, they make a healthy snack.
