Dry Ingrediets:
- 1 cup (120 g) whole wheat flour
- 1 cup (120 g) all purpose flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tbsp. granulated white sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Wet Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp. (30 g) cold butter
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) sour cream
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk
- 1 medium egg
- 1 egg for egg wash
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 392°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 cup all-purpose flour, 3 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tbsp granulated white sugar, and 1/2 tsp salt. Stir well to ensure all dry ingredients are evenly mixed.
- Cut 2 tbsp of cold butter into small pieces and add to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add 1/2 cup sour cream to the mixture and stir until a dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until it comes together.
- Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with butter or honey.
Notes
- These biscuits are best enjoyed fresh from the oven.
- They can be reheated slightly to enjoy a warm biscuit or sliced and toasted for a crispier texture.
- Adding honey or butter enhances their flavor.
