Description

These spiced maple donuts are a delightful fall treat, featuring a rich maple molasses glaze that perfectly complements the warm spices.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 cup sorghum flour
  • 1/2 cup oat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 6 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a donut pan with coconut oil or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the almond flour, sorghum flour, oat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and sea salt.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the maple syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, grated ginger, and melted coconut oil. Mix until well combined.
  4. Using a spatula, fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Fill the donut pan with the batter, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the donuts are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. While the donuts are baking, prepare the glaze by combining the molasses, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until smooth and slightly thickened.
  8. Once the donuts are done, allow them to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Dip the cooled donuts into the maple molasses glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Place back on the wire rack to set.

Notes

Store these donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For a nut-free version, substitute almond flour with an equal amount of all-purpose gluten-free flour. These donuts pair well with a hot cup of coffee or tea.
