Description

Dinners ready in under 30 minutes!
This simple Bolognese is perfect for a weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lbs (454 g) ground beef
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 cup (237 ml) sliced mushrooms
  • 5 cloves (2 Tbs) minced garlic
  • 2 cans (850 g) tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black ground pepper
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 cups (118 ml) red wine
  • 1/4 cups (60 ml) fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef over medium heat in a Dutch oven or a wide skillet with tall sides.
  2. Before the beef is finished browning, add the onion and sauté until it turns translucent and begins to soften, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add the mushrooms and sauté until they lose most of their moisture and soften.
  4. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  5. Add tomato sauce, red wine, salt, pepper, dried basil, and dried oregano. Stir to combine.
  6. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring often.
  7. Turn off the burner, stir in the fresh basil, and serve.

Notes

  • For deeper flavor, brown the beef in batches to ensure it crisps properly.
  • If you don’t have red wine, substitute an equal amount of beef broth.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and frozen for up to 3 months.
