A delightful fusion of Indian Katri Matri and American animal crackers, these crispy snacks are perfect for family gatherings and creative fun.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) semolina
  • 1/2 stick butter or 1/4 cup (60 ml) canola oil
  • 1 tsp carrom seeds
  • 1 tsp fenugreek flakes or parsley flakes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Few black peppers
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder (optional)
  • Warm water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Sieve the all-purpose flour and semolina into a bowl to remove any lumps.
  2. Add salt, carrom seeds, fenugreek flakes, and butter (or canola oil) to the flour mixture.
  3. Gradually add warm water, mixing continuously, to form a soft dough.
  4. Cover the dough with a cheesecloth and let it rest for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into desired shapes.
  8. Place the shaped dough pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crackers are golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

  • You can use either butter or canola oil depending on your preference.
  • Feel free to experiment with different shapes using cookie cutters.
  • These crackers are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
  • Adding cocoa powder is optional for a hint of chocolate flavor.
