Scale
- 6 apples (or 3 lb / 1.35 kg), peeled, cored, and cut into small pieces
- 2 cups (480 ml) oats
- 1/2 cup (65 g) flour
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) honey (or 4 tbsp)
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 stick (or 4 oz or 113.4 grams) of unsalted butter, at room temperature
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 380°F (or 193°C).
- In a large baking dish, combine the apple pieces with 3 tbsp of sugar and 2 tsp of cinnamon. Mix well until the apples are evenly coated. Let this mixture rest while you prepare the topping.
- In a separate bowl, mix together 2 cups of oats, 1/2 cup of flour, and 1/4 cup of honey. Add the room temperature butter and use your fingers to combine the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Spread the oat mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes to prevent the top from burning while the apples bake.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 to 25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Notes
- Cover the apple crisp with aluminum foil for the first 30 to 40 minutes of baking to prevent the topping from burning.
- This dish can be enjoyed as a dessert or even for breakfast with a cup of coffee.
- If you have leftovers, they make a healthy snack.
