This homemade BBQ sauce is a flavorful blend of ketchup, vinegar, and spices, perfect for summer grilling and sure to become your new favorite.

- 1 tbsp (15 g) butter
- 1/2 onion, very finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- 1 1/2 cups (350 g) ketchup
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup (50 g) sugar
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Tabasco sauce
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the very finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Add the ketchup, cider vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, and cayenne pepper to the pan.
- Stir the mixture well and bring it to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Let the sauce cool before using or storing.
Notes
- Store the BBQ sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- Adjust the amount of Tabasco sauce and cayenne pepper to suit your spice preference.
- This sauce pairs well with grilled meats, vegetables, and even fruits.
