Description

These Hazelnut and Amaretto Brown Butter Blondies are rich and gooey, with a nutty flavor from browned butter and a decadent swirl of Nutella.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1-1/2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1-1/2 cups light brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp amaretto
  • 1/2 cup Nutella (or chocolate hazelnut spread)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue to cook, swirling the pan occasionally, until the butter foams and begins to turn a light brown color and smells nutty, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat immediately to prevent burning.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the browned butter and light brown sugar, stirring until smooth.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and amaretto.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Drop spoonfuls of Nutella over the batter, then spread the remaining batter on top, smoothing it out.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the blondies to cool in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

Brown the butter carefully to avoid burning; it should smell nutty and have a light brown color. These blondies are best stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can substitute the Nutella with any chocolate hazelnut spread.
