Scale
- 4 3/4 cups (600 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp (13 g) baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp (7 g) instant dry yeast
- 1/2 cup (100 ml) vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup (200 ml) sour cream, room temperature
- 3/4 cup (200 ml) warm milk
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 egg yolk, for brushing
- Seeds of choice (e.g., sesame, poppy) for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk with sugar and instant dry yeast until the yeast dissolves.
- Add the vegetable oil and sour cream to the flour mixture, followed by the milk and yeast mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment or by hand on a floured surface until it is smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and shape each portion into a bun. Optionally, fill each bun with your favorite cheese before sealing.
- Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops of the buns with egg yolk and sprinkle with your choice of seeds.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- These buns are best enjoyed fresh from the oven but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- You can experiment with different fillings such as cheese or ham.
- The combination of baking powder and yeast allows the dough to rise quickly without needing to double in size.
