Scale
- 600 g all-purpose flour
- 13 g (0.45 oz) baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 7 g (0.24 oz) instant dry yeast
- 100 ml (0.4 cups) vegetable oil
- 200 ml (0.8 cups) sour cream, room temperature
- 200 ml (0.8 cups) warm milk
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 egg yolk, for brushing
- Seeds of choice (e.g., sesame, poppy) for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk with sugar and instant dry yeast until the yeast dissolves.
- Add the vegetable oil and sour cream to the flour mixture, followed by the milk and yeast mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment or by hand on a floured surface until it is smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and shape each portion into a bun. Optionally, fill each bun with your favorite cheese before sealing.
- Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops of the buns with egg yolk and sprinkle with your choice of seeds.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
These buns are best enjoyed fresh from the oven but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. You can experiment with different fillings such as cheese or ham. The combination of baking powder and yeast allows the dough to rise quickly without needing to double in size.
