- 3 oz (85 g) Parmesan cheese, grated
- 2.25 cups (534 ml) all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 0.125 tsp cayenne pepper
- 0.125 tsp ground black pepper
- 4 oz (113 g) sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1 cup (237 ml) lager or pilsner beer
- 0.5 cups (118 ml) full-fat sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C).
- Grease a loaf pan with butter.
- Sprinkle half of the Parmesan cheese on the bottom of the loaf pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, cayenne, and black pepper.
- Add the cheddar cheese and toss to coat with the flour mixture.
- In a smaller mixing bowl or a large mixing cup, combine the beer, sour cream or Greek yogurt, melted butter, and egg.
- Pour over the dry mixture and stir to combine until no large dry spots remain.
- Scrape the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Top with the remaining Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, until golden on top.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a strong, flavorful beer like a stout or porter.
- To make this bread gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
- Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
