Tequila-Plum Smash

  • 2 1/2 ounces Suerte Reposado Tequila
  • 1 whole (small ripe plum (pit removed and sliced))
  • 4 large (fresh basil leaves (or 3 sliced of jalapeño if you’d prefer a spicy drink))
  • juice of half of a lime
  • maple syrup (to taste)
  • 2 ounces sparkling water or ginger beer


  1. In a cocktail shaker or mason jar with a tight-fitting lid, muddle the plum and basil or jalapeño with the tequila.
  2. Add ice to the shaker, along with the lime juice and maple syrup, if desired. We like to add a splash of maple syrup if the plum we are using is not very sweet naturally. Start with a small amount and add more after you have shaken with ice and tasted it.
  3. Shake until the shaker is cold and strain into a fresh glass. Top with a splash of sparkling water or ginger beer and garnish with a slice of plum and basil leave or jalapeño slice.
