Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 17 ounces (482 g) pork loin
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 3 pieces spring onion
  • 1 piece green bell pepper
  • 1 piece yellow bell pepper
  • 2 pieces canned pineapple ring
  • vegetable or sunflower oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chinese 5 spice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon light soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese rice wine
  • 3 tablespoons plain flour
  • 1 piece egg
  • 2-3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon plum sauce
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon corn flour
  • 120 ml (1/2 cups) water

Instructions

  1. Cut the pork into bite-sized cubes and place in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add Chinese 5 spice, salt, soy sauce, and Chinese rice wine; marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Mix the sweet and sour ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  4. Coat the pork lightly with flour, dip in beaten egg, and coat with more flour.
  5. Heat oil in a wok and deep fry the pork in batches for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Clean your wok and heat 1 tablespoon of oil.
  7. Add chopped garlic, spring onions, green pepper, and pineapple pieces. Stir-fry for 30-40 seconds.
  8. Add sweet and sour sauce. Bring to a boil and add the pork pieces to the wok.
  9. Stir to mix, then serve.

Notes

  • For extra crispy pork, ensure the pork is completely dry before coating with flour and egg.
  • To adjust the sweetness, add more or less brown sugar to the sweet and sour sauce to your liking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently in a pan or microwave.
