Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the crust mixture get divided and used for both the base and the topping?

The same crumbly flour-sugar-butter mixture serves double duty: most of it is pressed into the 9×13 dish and pre-baked for 15 minutes to form a firm base, while 1 reserved cup is scattered over the blueberry sour cream filling before the final 1-hour bake, creating a crumble topping.

Should I serve these bars warm or at room temperature?

The instructions note to cool before serving if eating them alone, but say you can serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Both approaches work — cooling helps the bars hold their shape when cutting.
