Description

Tender shredded chicken in a rich, creamy apple cider and bacon sauce. This effortless slow cooker meal is perfect for piling onto pretzel buns for a cozy and comforting sandwich.


Ingredients

  • 3 lbs (1.4 kg) boneless skinless chicken breast
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) salt
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) pepper
  • 2 8 oz (227 g) blocks cream cheese
  • 1 3 oz (85 g) package bacon bits
  • 3/4 cup (177 ml) apple cider
  • 8 Pretzel buns
  • Canned fried onions for topping

Instructions

  1. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then add it to a slow cooker along with the cider and cream cheese.
  2. Cook on low for 6 hours.
  3. Remove the chicken, shred it, then place it back into the slow cooker and mix together with the cream cheese and cider.
  4. Stir in bacon bits.
  5. Serve on a bun with crunchy fried onion on top.

Notes

For best results, use pretzel buns as they complement the flavors well. This dish can also be served in baked potatoes or wrapped in tortillas with extra cheese. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop until warmed through.
