Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 Tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 13 tsp red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. preheat oven to 325 degrees
  2. line baking sheets with parchment or silpat mats
  3. whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
  4. in another bowl whisk together the brown sugar, eggs, butter, and vanilla, and coloring (I used 1 tsp – use more if you want a brighter red color)
  5. fold in the flour until completely incorporated
  6. scoop dough (about 2 Tbsp size balls) and roll into balls
  7. roll each ball in the sugar, and then the powdered sugar
  8. place balls on prepared baking sheets, and bake 12 minutes
  9. cool on baking sheets 5 minutes, and them move to rack to complete cooling
