Scale
- 6 - 8 slices of bacon
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) butter, melted
- 1 cup (240 ml) flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) pure maple syrup (plus more for serving)
- 1 cup (240 ml) milk
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Cut bacon into pieces small enough to fit across your waffle iron; cutting each piece into thirds usually works well.
- Cook bacon on the waffle iron, placing 2 pieces per section (adjust based on your iron’s size). Cook until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix melted butter, maple syrup, milk, and egg until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the cooked bacon pieces.
- Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron, using about 1/2 cup of batter per waffle, or according to your waffle iron’s instructions.
- Cook until the waffles are golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.
- Serve immediately with additional maple syrup if desired.
Notes
- For extra bacon flavor, cook the bacon directly on the waffle iron.
- You can also pan fry or bake the bacon if preferred.
- Use real maple syrup for the best taste.
- These waffles are best enjoyed fresh but can be frozen and reheated in a toaster for a quick breakfast.
