Description

A fun project for kids (or adults!), these homemade Tootsie Rolls are surprisingly easy to make and melt in your mouth.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 7 oz (200 g) dark chocolate
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) Lyles Golden Syrup

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
  2. Once melted, remove from heat and fold in the syrup and salt.
  3. Continue folding until completely combined; it will become a dough.
  4. Let cool to room temperature.
  5. Toss the dough out on a cutting board and slice into rolls.
  6. Roll and wrap the rolls in candy paper.
  7. Store at room temperature.

Notes

  • For easier rolling, chill the dough slightly after it cools to room temperature.
  • If Lyles Golden Syrup is unavailable, corn syrup can be used as a substitute.
  • Store homemade Tootsie Rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
