Description

A comforting, slow-cooked applesauce perfect for autumn. Sweet and spiced, its the ultimate fall side dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 lbs (1361 g) apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Place apples in a medium slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  3. Pour wet mixture over the apples and cook covered on low for about 10 hours.
  4. Using an immersion blender, puree the cooked apples until smooth.

Notes

  • For a smoother applesauce, peel and core the apples meticulously; small pieces will blend better.
  • To adjust sweetness, taste and add more honey or sugar as needed after the initial cooking time.
  • Store leftover applesauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days; freeze for longer storage.
