Description
Crispy tofu coated in a sweet and sticky glaze. A quick, flavorful weeknight meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 14 oz (397 g) extra firm tofu
- 4 1/2 tbsp sweet soy sauce
- 2 1/2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1-2 cloves garlic
- 1 tbsp red pepper flakes
- 4 1/2 tbsp corn starch
- 4-5 tbsp water
- 4 tbsp vegetable oil
- Sea salt flakes
- sesame seeds
- chopped green onions
Instructions
- Drain and press the tofu using a tofu press or by wrapping it in a clean tea towel and placing a weight on top to remove excess water.
- In a small bowl, whisk together sweet soy sauce, vinegar, grated garlic, and red pepper flakes.
- Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch and four tablespoons of water and stir until combined.
- Slice the tofu into triangles or cubes and coat them in the remaining cornstarch.
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat (approximately 375°F/190°C), then add the tofu in a single layer, frying until golden and crispy.
- Add the marinade to the pan, quickly coating all sides of the tofu.
- Serve the crispy sticky tofu hot, garnished with sesame seeds or sea salt flakes and green onions.
Notes
- For extra crispy tofu, ensure it’s completely dry before coating with cornstarch.
- If the glaze is too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time until desired consistency is reached.
- Store leftover tofu in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a pan or microwave.
