Description

Crispy tofu coated in a sweet and sticky glaze. A quick, flavorful weeknight meal.


Ingredients

  • 14 oz (397 g) extra firm tofu
  • 4 1/2 tbsp sweet soy sauce
  • 2 1/2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1-2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbsp red pepper flakes
  • 4 1/2 tbsp corn starch
  • 4-5 tbsp water
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Sea salt flakes
  • sesame seeds
  • chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Drain and press the tofu using a tofu press or by wrapping it in a clean tea towel and placing a weight on top to remove excess water.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together sweet soy sauce, vinegar, grated garlic, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch and four tablespoons of water and stir until combined.
  4. Slice the tofu into triangles or cubes and coat them in the remaining cornstarch.
  5. Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat (approximately 375°F/190°C), then add the tofu in a single layer, frying until golden and crispy.
  6. Add the marinade to the pan, quickly coating all sides of the tofu.
  7. Serve the crispy sticky tofu hot, garnished with sesame seeds or sea salt flakes and green onions.

Notes

  • For extra crispy tofu, ensure it’s completely dry before coating with cornstarch.
  • If the glaze is too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  • Store leftover tofu in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a pan or microwave.
