Description

These Caprese Sliders elevate grilled turkey burgers with fresh mozzarella, basil, and juicy summer tomatoes on a ciabatta bun.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey (light and dark meat)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 4 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 1 1-pound ciabatta loaf, sliced into slider-sized buns
  • 2 medium summer tomatoes, sliced
  • Olive oil, for grilling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, egg, chopped basil, breadcrumbs, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into 12 equal portions and shape each into a ball. Flatten each ball into a patty.
  3. Place a slice of mozzarella on top of 6 patties. Top with the remaining patties and pinch the edges to seal the cheese inside.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat and lightly brush with olive oil.
  5. Grill the patties for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the cheese is melted.
  6. Slice the ciabatta loaf into slider-sized buns and lightly toast on the grill for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  7. Assemble the sliders by placing a turkey patty on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a slice of tomato and a few basil leaves. Top with the other half of the bun.
  8. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

For a more intense basil flavor, add extra basil leaves when assembling the sliders. Store any leftover patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on a grill or in a skillet. Substitute ciabatta with any sturdy bread if preferred.
