- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 drops almond extract
- 1/2 tsp orange zest
- 4 pieces thick-sliced bread
- 1/2 cups (118 ml) sliced almonds
- 1/2 cups (118 ml) Bonne Maman Strawberry Preserves
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp orange liqueur
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with foil and setting aside.
- Melt butter over medium heat in a large skillet.
- Place sliced almonds on a plate in an even layer.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and orange zest.
- Dunk each piece of bread briefly into the milk mixture, flipping to coat both sides. Allow excess to drip off.
- Place bread onto the plate of sliced almonds and press lightly to adhere. Flip and repeat.
- Place almond-coated bread in the skillet and cook until almonds turn golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove from skillet and place onto the foil-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 5-7 minutes, flipping halfway through if desired, until golden brown and no longer wet.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly.
For sauce
- In a small saucepan, heat strawberry preserves with a tablespoon of water over medium-high heat, whisking to loosen.
- Bring to a bubble, then reduce heat and simmer for 1-1.5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add orange liqueur, whisking to combine.
To serve
- Cut French toast into sticks and arrange on a plate.
- Pour strawberry dipping sauce into a serving dish and serve alongside.
Notes
- For even crispier French toast sticks, use day-old bread.
- If you don’t have orange liqueur, substitute with an extra teaspoon of orange zest.
- Store leftover French toast sticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
