Description

Spice up steak night with a java-infused rub.
The smoky, spicy crust seals in juicy perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tbsp ground coffee
  • 1 tbsp fresh ground pepper
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 4 strip steaks, about 1 1/2 inches thick

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the ground coffee, pepper, salt, garlic powder, chili powder, oregano, and sugar.
  2. Rub steaks with a generous amount of the spices.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for 1–4 hours.
  4. Heat grill to high.
  5. Remove the steaks from the refrigerator about 15 minutes before grilling to remove the chill from the meat.
  6. Grill steaks about 6–8 minutes per side for medium rare. The internal temperature of the steaks should be about 130–135°F (54–57°C).
  7. Remove steaks from the grill and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For a deeper coffee flavor, use freshly roasted, coarsely ground coffee beans.
  • To prevent overcooking, use a meat thermometer to ensure the steaks reach your desired internal temperature.
  • Leftover steaks can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and are delicious sliced thin in salads or sandwiches.
