Description

Beloved by foodies everywhere, guacamole should be on every home cook’s repertoire. And we have the perfect recipe. The secret is very simple.

Ingredients

Scale

2 ripe avocados

1 medium lime, juiced and zested

Salt and black pepper, to taste

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 jalapeño, seeds removed and finely chopped

1/2 bunch fresh cilantro, finely chopped (about 1/2 cup packed)

2 Campari tomatoes (or 1 large ripe tomato), finely diced

1 medium shallot, finely diced

Instructions

Step 1: Prep Your Ingredients

  • Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium mixing bowl.

  • Zest and juice the lime. Set aside the zest for later.

  • Dice your tomatoes, shallot, jalapeño, garlic, and cilantro. Be sure to remove the jalapeño seeds if you want a milder heat.

Step 2: Mash the Avocados

  • Add the lime juice, salt, and pepper to the avocado in the bowl.

  • Use a fork or spoon to mash to your desired consistency. Some prefer chunky; others like it smooth—your call.

Step 3: Fold in the Aromatics

  • Gently fold in the chopped garlic, jalapeño, shallot, tomato, and cilantro. Stir just until everything is evenly distributed, but don’t over-mix—this is guacamole, not purée.

Step 4: Chill or Rest

  • Cover and place in the refrigerator for 15–25 minutes. This helps the flavors marry. Alternatively, let it sit at room temperature for 20 minutes before serving.

Step 5: Serve

  • Scoop into a serving bowl, garnish with a bit of lime zest or extra cilantro if desired, and serve immediately with chips, tacos, or grilled meats.

Notes

Optional Twist: For a fusion twist, stir in 1 teaspoon sesame oil and ½ teaspoon fish sauce. Top with toasted sesame seeds to pair with Asian-inspired dishes.
