Gingerbread cookies are a holiday staple. This recipe is slightly different as it uses honey instead of molasses.
For the dough
  • 12.3 oz (350 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ginger
  • ¼ tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp finely grated orange zest
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 oz (115 g) butter
  • 2 eggs
  • ⅛ cup (30 ml) honey
For the glaze
  • 4 oz (115 g) powdered sugar
  • 4 tsp milk
  • food coloring
  1. Sift flour with baking soda and spices. Add orange zest, softened butter, honey and eggs. Knead into a dough, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least two hours.
  2. Roll out the dough onto a lightly floured surface or between two sheets of baking paper and cut out using cookie cutters.
  3. Preheat oven to 356 F (180 C). Bake for around 15 minutes. Let cool completely.
  4. Make the glaze: whisk powdered sugar with milk and add food coloring of your own choice. Pipe onto cookies using piping bag which you've cut slightly on top.
