Caramel Apple Tea Scones

Did you recently go apple picking? Do you have a hefty harvest of fall apples in your kitchen? Easily make a batch of these caramel apple tea scones with the seasonal produce.
For the scones:
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 Celestial Seasonings Caramel Apple Dream tea bags
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1¼ cups white whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon cloves
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup butter, cold and cut into small chunks
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 medium apple, grated or cut into small chunks
For the glaze:
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon butter, at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  1. Place milk in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute.
  2. Steep tea bags in milk for 10 minutes, remove the tea bags, then chill milk.
  3. Once milk is chilled, preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  4. Combine flours, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a food processor.
  5. Add butter and pulse until the butter is well distributed and it resembles crumbs.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together chilled milk, egg, brown sugar, and vanilla until combined.
  7. Combine milk mixture with flour/butter mixture in a large bowl and stir together with a wooden spoon or spatula until well combined.
  8. Fold in apple. The dough will be sticky.
  9. Place dough on a well floured surface and with floured hands, shape into a 9 disc.
  10. Cut into 8 triangles and place them on a parchment or Silpat lined baking sheet, about 2 apart.
  11. Bake for 20-22 minutes, until golden brown.
To make the glaze:
  1. Beat together all frosting ingredients until well combined.
  2. Drizzle over warm scones.
