Kelly Simpson visits this charming hotel in the center of Marxuquera Valley, a few kilometers from the beaches of the Costa Blanca.

I love places situated between the mountains and the coast. Maybe it’s because I am from a coastal city (Miami) that is flat and find that a mountainous backdrop is a beautiful contrast to the white sandy beaches. If you also add acres of orange groves with orange blossoms in bloom, you have a beautiful setting that makes waking up every morning a wonderful experience. Perhaps that is why I live here. But it was until many years after living in this corner of the Mediterranean that I discovered this lovely place in the same valley where I live. Occasionally you find a romantic oasis hidden from the rest of the world where time seems to stand still. It is even more surprising when it turns out that that place is just a few minutes of your own home.
The Falconera is a small, family-run hotel and restaurant in the valley of Marxuquera in the Costa Blanca region of Spain, located only about 10 km from the beach. The hotel is a historic building dated in 1870, surrounded by pines, palms and orange trees. The owners and managers Yves and Therese live there with their son and run this quaint hotel and restaurant.
Yves and Thérèse are originally from Paris. They fell in love with the property and decided to buy the site, and after 3 years of renovations, they opened the hotel in 2004. With only 4 rooms the place is a charming, boutique-style hotel and the decor is carefully selected to the last detail. Rustic in style, respecting the architecture of the old estate, but with a serene elegance present in every corner, this hotel is a perfect place for a romantic getaway.
All rooms have spectacular views. Each is unique with features such as balconies overlooking the garden, private terraces or living rooms. No doubt it´s a quiet place to spend a few days visiting all the interesting places in the surrounding area.
Of course I must mention the dinner we enjoyed in the hotel´s small and intimate dining room. The menu is a selection of seasonal products with the best items in the area of from sea and land. I enjoyed some delicious ginger prawns while my husband opted for a the sea bass with fennel. Both dishes were beautifully presented and even more delectable. We ended our romantic dinner with some wonderful homemade desserts such as their chocolate cake and a tarta tatin (a french touch is noticeable in every dish). For a little more about what they have to offer, here is the link to their menu.
If you are looking for a quiet getaway in the area, you won´t be disappointed with this charming and relaxing hotel.
