Located in central Stockholm, the Berns Hotel boasts gorgeous restaurants and personal service. Kalle Bergman paid it a visit.

Berns Hotel is part of the magnificent Bern’s Salonger in central Stockholm. The gorgeous building opened its doors over 150 years ago, and ever since, it has been one of the most important entertainment venues in Sweden. Here, great names like Edith Piaf, Bob Dylan, Eartha Kitt, Josephine Baker as well as contemporary artists like Lily Allen and local heroine Robyn have performed over the years. To this day, Berns is one of Stockholm’s most active and important music scenes.
The large dining room at the Berns is absolutely stunning. Probably one of the most gorgeous restaurants in Europe. It houses the breakfast buffet, and the Berns asian restaurant. Here, modern pan asian fusion dishes are served both for lunch and dinner, and the restaurant is very popular with the locals as well as visitors. While we didn’t really enjoy the rather bland lunch menu, the dinner menu serves solid and fresh modern asian dishes, so we do understand the restaurants popularity with the locals. In the park outside the main building, Bistro Berns is serving classic French bistro fare – well cooked and in a cosy environment. Always a welcome thing at a good hotel.
The hotel part at Berns opened it’s doors in the late 80’s. But where the restaurants and ballrooms are grand and imposing, the hotel has a small and intimate atmosphere. The rooms have a personal touch, with a combination of Scandinavian design, colorful details and exclusive flea market finds. The look and feel is contemporary, but with a constant eye to the classic. This is really a boutique hotel in the true sense of the word, and it was recently named the best boutique hotel in Sweden.
The service at the hotel is friendly and personal, a far cry from the usual hotel chain robots. In our book, that’s a positive thing. And the location, smack in the middle of the city, is hard to beat. As a hotel, it’s no-frills, the focus is on good rooms and good entertainment. If you want spa treatments, fitness or swimming pools – you’ll have to go to the Sturebadet about a quarter mile from the hotel.
If you stay at the Berns Hotel during the weekends you should know that the hotel is basically sitting atop of one of the city’s most popular nightclubs. Great if you are a single, a group of friends or a couple looking to party – but perhaps not ideal for a family. Just a word of caution.
All in all, Berns is a great boutique hotel with one of the best locations in Stockholm, good food and some of the most beautiful common areas in Europe – it is absolutely perfect for anyone who wants a little more party and decadence added to their visit to the capital of Sweden.
